Depok, LAMSAMA – Following the establishment of the Independent Higher Education Accreditation Agency (LAM PT), the Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Sains Alam dan Ilmu Formal (LAMSAMA) played an active role in the event titled “Consensus Meeting on Enhancing the Quality of Higher Education,” held on Thursday (July 28).

The event took place in the Meeting Room of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (Diktiristek), 18th floor, Building D, Senayan, and involved the Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (Diktiristek), the Acting Secretary of Diktiristek, the Chairman of the Accreditation Council of the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT), the Executive Director of BAN-PT, the Chairman of the Association of Private Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia (ABPPTSI), and the Chairman of the Association of Private Universities in Indonesia (Aptisi).

The event was also attended by the chairs and representatives of each LAM, including the Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Perguruan Tinggi Kesehatan (LAMPTKes), Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Ekonomi Manajemen Bisnis dan Akuntansi (LAMEMBA), Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Program Studi Keteknikan (LAM TEKNIK), Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Kependidikan (LAMDIK), the Chairman of Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Sains Alam dan Ilmu Formal (LAMSAMA), and Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Informatika dan Komputer (LAM INFOKOM).

The Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (Diktiristek), Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., DIC, Ph.D., IPU, Asean Eng., expressed the importance of enhancing and maintaining the quality of higher education in Indonesia, stating that this accreditation process is a champion effort.

“Yesterday, the Minister of Education and Science of Malaysia visited here to learn about our system, including accreditation. Many are interested in the significant transformation we have undertaken. Let us together safeguard this transformation,” he emphasized in his remarks.

However, during the accreditation process conducted by LAM-PT, there were requests for postponing the accreditation by LAM.

In response, LAMSAMA has extended the accreditation period for study programs. Programs whose accreditation is expiring in 2022 can apply for an extension to LAMSAMA, and the extension will be valid until December 31, 2022. The requirements for the extension include attaching a Letter of Certification (SK) and the previous accreditation certificate.

At LAMSAMA, apart from state universities, many private universities are also undergoing the accreditation process. Nearly 50% of the processed study programs come from private universities, and many of the accreditation applications received are from private universities.

“The transformation from BAN-PT to LAM is certainly not easy; changes require a transition period, adaptation, and other factors. We have established this system to collectively achieve our goals with an improved and robust system in the future, without sacrificing anyone,” Nizam concluded.
