Depok, LAMSAMA – As a newly established accreditation institution, the Lembaga Akreditasi Mandiri Sains Alam dan Ilmu Formal (LAMSAMA) is continuously striving for improvement before its official operations commence. To that end, the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT) conducted an assessment of LAMSAMA’s operational readiness at the LAMSAMA Office, 5th Floor of the Multidisciplinary Laboratory Building, FMIPA UI, Depok, on Thursday (March 9).
The field assessment was attended by Prof. Bambang Suryoatmono, Ph.D., and Dr. Henriko, S.T., M.Eng., as Members of the Accreditation Council (MA) of BAN-PT, and Tjokrode Walmiki Samadhi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., who is the Secretary of the Executive Board of BAN-PT, as the reviewers.
Bambang, as he is fondly called, explained that the MA of BAN-PT was assigned to conduct the assessment of LAMSAMA. “We will provide recommendations and evaluations to ensure the smooth operation of LAMSAMA,” he said.
At the beginning of the assessment process, Henriko outlined the 6 aspects that were evaluated, including the legal foundation of LAMSAMA, the study programs under LAMSAMA’s purview, LAMSAMA’s instruments, policies regarding national accreditation recognition, LAMSAMA’s IT system, and the human resources within LAMSAMA.
Henriko himself acknowledged that the accreditation transition period from BAN-PT to LAM was quite a lengthy process. “The most important thing during this transition period is to ensure that there are no processes that disadvantage study programs and universities. It’s about how we collectively develop this accreditation process, which will eventually be returned to LAM,” he emphasized.
Agreeing with Henriko, Bambang also provided input that LAMSAMA’s policies and regulations should strike a balance and should not have instruments that are either too rigid or too flexible. Everything should be balanced.
Out of the six evaluated aspects, LAMSAMA has already designed and implemented all six elements. Through the Government Assistance (Banpem) funds provided, LAMSAMA has created various instruments, conducted system socialization and testing, recruited assessors, and more.
In conclusion, Prof. Bambang Suryoatmono, Ph.D., once again expressed appreciation for the collaborative strategies with professional associations that LAMSAMA has undertaken. As LAMSAMA itself was born out of a gathering of professional associations. Not only that, he also commended LAMSAMA for being the only accreditation institution that has differentiated one study program from another in terms of its supplementary series.
BAN-PT and LAMSAMA are determined to make every effort to ensure the successful operation of LAMSAMA in the future. “BAN-PT will continue to encourage the development of all accreditation institutions until they graduate and can operate. And hopefully, through this progressive development, LAMSAMA will achieve ongoing success,” he concluded.
