Depok, LAMSAMA — The Indonesian Accreditation Agency for Higher Education in Natural and Formal Sciences (LAMSAMA) welcomed a site visit by the review team of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE) from 22 to 24 June 2026. The visit formed part of the assessment process to evaluate LAMSAMA’s alignment with the International Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (ISG) developed by INQAAHE, following the submission of its Self-Evaluation Document (SED) and supporting evidence in March 2026.
The site visit was conducted by the INQAAHE Review Panel, consisting of Prof. Dr. Eddy Chong Siong Choy as Panel Chair, Dr. Karen Treloar as Panel Secretary, Dr. Lobna Al-Khalifa as Panel Member, and Dewin Justiniano as INQAAHE ISG Project Manager. Throughout the three-day review, the panel examined the following, (1) Legitimacy of the external quality assurance provider, (2) The EQAP’s framework for external review of quality of Tertiary Education Providers (TEPs), (3) The EQAP’s review of TEPs: evaluation, decision making, and appeals, (4) Internationalization and external relations, (5) Integrity, disclosure, and transparency, and (6) Stakeholders’ role and engagement.
The visit commenced with a session involving the LAMSAMA Executive Board, followed by interviews with key governance bodies, including the Accreditation Council, Supervisory Board, and Advisory Board. The panel also engaged in discussions with regulators and policymakers, including representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT), and higher education quality assurance experts.
As part of the verification and clarification process, the panel conducted interviews with a wide range of stakeholders involved in LAMSAMA’s accreditation system. These included leaders of higher education institutions that have undergone LAMSAMA accreditation, assessors and validators, administrative, finance, and information technology staff, the Internal Quality Assurance Unit, professional associations in the fields of natural sciences and formal sciences, the Indonesian Association of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Higher Education Institutions (MIPAnet), graduate employers from government and research institutions, representatives of other independent accreditation agencies in Indonesia and the region, as well as students from study programs accredited by LAMSAMA.
Through these interviews, the panel gained a comprehensive understanding of LAMSAMA’s policy implementation, decision-making processes, stakeholder engagement practices, internal quality assurance mechanisms, and the impact of its accreditation services on the quality enhancement of study programs and higher education institutions.
The site visit represents an important stage in the ISG alignment review process, which aims to ensure that quality assurance agencies carry out their responsibilities in accordance with internationally recognized best practices. Beyond serving as an independent external evaluation, the review also provides LAMSAMA with valuable opportunities to receive strategic feedback from international experts to further strengthen its governance and support continuous quality improvement.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Drs. Ir. Mitra Djamal, IPU., ASEAN Eng., Director of the LAMSAMA Executive Board, expressed his appreciation to all parties involved in the review process.
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the INQAAHE Review Panel for conducting a constructive and professional review, as well as to all stakeholders who generously shared their experiences and perspectives regarding LAMSAMA’s accreditation services. We hope that this process will provide valuable insights for further strengthening LAMSAMA’s quality assurance system, enabling it to become increasingly aligned with international practices and to make an even greater contribution to the advancement of higher education quality in the fields of natural sciences and formal sciences in Indonesia,” said Prof. Mitra Djamal.

LAMSAMA views the INQAAHE review process as part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of its accreditation services, strengthening accountability and transparency, and expanding international recognition of Indonesia’s higher education quality assurance system.
The outcome of the review is expected to further strengthen public confidence in LAMSAMA’s accreditation processes and decisions, while creating broader opportunities for collaboration with quality assurance agencies for tertiary education providers and higher education stakeholders at both the regional and global levels.
