Depok, LAMSAMA – The Independent Accreditation Agency for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences (LAMSAMA) held an internal upgrading program titled “Effective Communication and Burnout Prevention: Sustaining the Effectiveness and Energy of Accreditation Support Teams” on Thursday, 7 December 2023, at the LAMSAMA Office in Depok. The program aimed to strengthen the strategic role of LAMSAMA staff in ensuring orderly accreditation processes through clear, consistent communication and proactive burnout prevention.

The event featured Dr. Putri Mega Desiana, SE., MM., a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia, as the main speaker. In her presentation, she emphasized the critical importance of effective communication in supporting smooth accreditation processes that involve multiple stakeholders, tight deadlines, and considerable emotional demands.

Dr. Putri explained that LAMSAMA staff play a strategic role as custodians of the accreditation system rather than assessors of academic quality. Staff members serve as the primary liaison between LAMSAMA, applicant study programs, and assessors, while ensuring that all procedures are conducted in an orderly, fair, and consistent manner in accordance with established standard operating procedures.

“The quality of accreditation is not determined solely by assessors’ evaluations, but also by the orderliness of the process maintained by LAMSAMA staff. This is where clear, concise, and targeted communication becomes essential,” Dr. Putri stated.

She further noted that effective communication is not merely about delivering information, but about ensuring that messages are correctly understood and lead to appropriate actions. In the accreditation context, unclear communication can result in misunderstandings, extended working hours, increased emotional strain, and ultimately trigger staff fatigue or burnout.

During the session, participants were introduced to the key characteristics of effective communication, including message clarity, conciseness, relevance to the recipient’s context, and the use of closed-loop communication to confirm mutual understanding. Practical communication frameworks such as 5W1H (What, Who, Where, When, Why, and How) and SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) were also presented as useful tools for administrative communication and accreditation coordination.

LAMSAMA’s Deputy Director for Finance, Dr. Dra. Melania Suweni Muntini, M.T., stated that the upgrading program reflects the institution’s commitment to sustaining staff performance and maintaining the quality of accreditation services.

“We hope this activity strengthens the capacity of LAMSAMA staff not only in technical aspects of their work, but also in communication skills and mental well-being. With more effective communication and greater awareness of burnout prevention, work processes can become healthier, more efficient, and more integrity-driven,” Dr. Melania said.

She added that the success of the accreditation system relies heavily on administrative accuracy, neutrality, and the resilience of the human resources who operate it. For this reason, LAMSAMA continues to promote ongoing staff competency development.

Through this LAMSAMA Upgrading program, it is expected that staff members will be better equipped to maintain clear communication amid the dynamics and pressures of the accreditation process, while sustaining their energy and professionalism in upholding the integrity of the independent accreditation body.
