Depok, Indonesia — The Independent Accreditation Institution for Natural and Formal Sciences (LAMSAMA) has achieved alignment with the 2025 edition of the International Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (ISGs) established by the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education (INQAAHE). This achievement marks an important milestone in LAMSAMA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen quality assurance in natural and formal sciences higher education in Indonesia and align its accreditation system with internationally recognised standards and practices.
Following an external review conducted by an independent international panel, LAMSAMA was found to be substantially compliant with the INQAAHE ISGs. The assessment covered all 18 standards, with LAMSAMA achieving full compliance with 12 standards and substantial compliance with the remaining six. The alignment status is valid for five years, from 30 September 2026 to 30 September 2031.
The review process began with the submission of LAMSAMA’s Self-Evaluation Document (SED) and supporting evidence in March 2026, followed by an in-person review visit held from 22 to 24 June 2026. During the review, the panel examined LAMSAMA’s governance and legitimacy as an external quality assurance provider, its framework and processes for accreditation, evaluation and decision-making mechanisms, appeals procedures, internationalisation and external relations, integrity and transparency, and stakeholder engagement.
In its findings, the INQAAHE Review Panel highlighted several areas of good practice within LAMSAMA. These included a well-structured accreditation system, effective training for peer reviewers, and the successful implementation of SALAM, LAMSAMA’s digital accreditation platform. The panel also commended LAMSAMA’s use of thematic analysis and practical guidance documents to support continuous quality enhancement across higher education institutions.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Drs. Ir. Mitra Djamal, IPU., ASEAN Eng., Executive Director of LAMSAMA, stated that this achievement recognises LAMSAMA’s ongoing efforts to develop and strengthen a quality assurance system aligned with international practices. He emphasised that alignment with the INQAAHE ISGs represents not only an institutional milestone but also a foundation for further improving the quality of LAMSAMA’s accreditation services.
“We hope this achievement will further strengthen stakeholders’ confidence in LAMSAMA’s accreditation system and encourage us to continue enhancing our governance, assessor competencies, transparency, and service innovation,” said Prof. Mitra Djamal.
For LAMSAMA, alignment with the INQAAHE ISGs also provides an opportunity to strengthen institutional learning through ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of its quality assurance system. Feedback from the international review panel will help LAMSAMA identify areas for further development, build on existing good practices, and ensure that its accreditation processes continue to evolve in response to the needs of higher education and developments in global quality assurance.
This achievement also strengthens LAMSAMA’s engagement with the international higher education quality assurance community. Through its alignment with the INQAAHE ISGs, LAMSAMA aims to foster greater knowledge and experience sharing with other quality assurance agencies, expand opportunities for international collaboration, and contribute to the development of quality assurance practices that respond to both Indonesia’s higher education context and global developments. “Moving forward, we are committed to using these international standards as a reference for continuous quality enhancement, enabling LAMSAMA to make an even greater contribution to improving the quality of natural and formal sciences higher education in Indonesia,” concluded Prof. Mitra Djamal.
