Bali, LAMSAMA — The Independent Accreditation Institute for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences (LAMSAMA) participated in a special discussion session with MIPAnet during The Joint Conference 2023: The 4th ICePTi, The 13th ICTAP, and SFN XXXVI in Bali on August 21, 2023. The discussion served as a platform to share experiences, challenges, and feedback on the development of accreditation systems for study programs in Indonesia.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Drs. Mitra Djamal, IPU, ASEAN Eng., presented his session on the current status of LAMSAMA.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Drs. Mitra Djamal, IPU, ASEAN Eng., Director of the Executive Board of LAMSAMA, and Dr. Dra. Melania Suweni Muntini, M.T., Deputy Director of Finance at LAMSAMA. During the session, Prof. Mitra presented on the current conditions of LAMSAMA.

At the meeting, MIPAnet provided several strategic recommendations to LAMSAMA. They suggested conducting joint on-site assessments for several study programs under a single Program Management Unit (UPPS) to make the accreditation process more efficient and comprehensive. Additionally, MIPAnet emphasized the need to adjust the student number indicators, considering the declining interest of high school graduates in science programs in Indonesia. These adjustments are expected to create a more contextual and fair assessment, reflecting the actual conditions of science education today.

LAMSAMA welcomed the feedback from MIPAnet. Prof. Mitra stated, “We greatly appreciate the constructive input from MIPAnet. Their suggestions regarding joint on-site assessments and adjustments to student number indicators will be important considerations in our efforts to create accreditation that is both more relevant and equitable for science study programs in Indonesia.”

The meeting reaffirmed LAMSAMA’s commitment to continuously develop accreditation mechanisms that are adaptive to the dynamics of higher education while promoting the sustainable improvement of science study programs.
